EVIDENCE DEPTH · NOT A UNIVERSAL MULTIPLE
One market becomes six when size changes.
Each number is the count of accepted sanitized records in that sector and reported deal-value band. A dash means no count is published; the underlying cell may be zero, below the privacy threshold, or withheld to protect another cell.
Positive cells below 10 records are suppressed. An additional cell may be withheld when needed to prevent a hidden count from being recovered by subtraction. Zero and withheld cells share the same public marker, so absence never implies a count. The CSV preserves the same boundary.
HOW TO READ THE MAP
Use the map to judge evidence depth—not price.
A bigger cell means deeper index coverage
It does not mean that sector completed more US deals. This is an evidence map of accepted records, not an estimate of total market activity.
Size determines the buyer universe
An owner-operated business below $1 million and a $100 million company should not inherit the same earnings definition, buyer set, or valuation multiple.
Protected value evidence stays protected
Contributors can access eligible cohort percentiles and repeated comparable patterns. Public cells reveal only whether sufficient evidence exists.

businessvaluation.fyi. “Private Business Transactions by Industry and Deal Size.” 4,359 sanitized records; sector-size cells require at least 10 records. Snapshot 2026-08-14. https://businessvaluation.fyi/research/private-business-transactions-by-industry
METHOD + PRIVACY
Built from sanitized facts, published as coarse aggregates.
The independent index removes names, websites, exact financials, exact transaction values, exact dates, source URLs, and source-system identifiers. This map then groups records by broad sector and six reported deal-value bands. Cells below ten records are omitted, with complementary suppression when public totals could otherwise reveal one.

YOUR INDUSTRY · YOUR SIZE · YOUR EVIDENCE
Move from evidence depth to a private contribution.
Value an operating business, or share structured facts from a completed sale. Closed-deal submissions stay private and cannot influence a benchmark until review.
