ORIGINAL RESEARCH · REFRESHED 2026-08-14
Private business transactions, from Main Street to $1B+.
See how 4,359 sanitized records in the independent businessvaluation.fyi index are distributed across six deal-size bands. The public dataset shows coverage—not confidential deal details.
Across all six deal-size bands
Recent records with usable valuation-multiple evidence
Reported deal value from $10M to $250M
Current aggregate snapshot
DEAL-SIZE COVERAGE
One index. Six distinct markets.
Transaction count shows evidence depth. “Benchmark eligible” means a recent record contains usable valuation-multiple evidence; it is not a claim that every record represents the entire US market.

WHAT THE COUNTS TELL YOU
Evidence depth before valuation precision.
Not just micro businesses
The public index explicitly separates under-$1M records from lower-middle-market, middle-market, upper-middle-market, and $1B+ evidence.
No blended “universal” multiple
A $500K owner-operated business and a $100M enterprise do not share one defensible valuation method, buyer universe, or multiple.
Coverage is not valuation
Company earnings, size, industry, growth, transferability, concentration, assets, and deal terms still determine which evidence is relevant.
PUBLIC DATA, PROTECTED DEALS
Useful enough to cite. Coarse enough to protect a transaction.
The index accepts only approved research records, sanitizes and deduplicates them in separate infrastructure, and publishes this six-band aggregate. Names, URLs, source-system identifiers, exact values, exact dates, individual rows, and proprietary percentile ranges stay out of the public dataset.
Read the privacy standardDownloadable public aggregateThe CSV contains the six rows shown above, their counts, shares, rates, and snapshot date.
Fail-closed publishingIf any band is missing or aggregate totals disagree, both the page and CSV stop publishing.
Protected valuation evidenceIndividual transactions, valuation multiples, and cohort percentiles are never included in this public report.
